Sad. Dying at 56 and leaving behind an 83-year-old dad is no piece of good news.
For Ms Funke Adedoyin, a member of the House of Representatives, former Minister of State, Health and astute female politician, her battle with cancer ended abruptly on Friday September 28, 2018.
She was one of the daughters of billionaire businessman, Chairman, Doyin Group of Companies, Prince Samuel Adedoyin,
As a lawmaker, she represented Ekiti, Isin, Irepodun Oke-Ero Federal Constituency in Kwara South before her death.
Vibrant with a sense of purpose, Hon Adedoyin’s death which occurred Friday afternoon was said to have resulted from cancer complications which she has been battling since 2016.
She was said to have been cured of the disease but suffered a relapse three months ago which led to her traveling to the United States.
She had since returned to the country and was recuperating in Abuja until her death.
Ironically, her elder sister, Sola Adeoti won the battle with cancer. A former Managing Director of City Express Bank, Sola, who is the first daughter of Prince Samuel Adedoyin, is happily married to Sola Alao.
Sola, an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God has had to do battle with the much-dreaded cancer disease, twice!
The first time was when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and on the second occasion it was her son, Solomon, who was diagnosed with cancer of the brain that could terminate a life. With unprecedented faith and towering resilience, Adeoti survived the deadly disease on both occasions. She has dedicated her life to helping cancer patients fight the dreaded disease through her organisation, the Mariasam Foundation.
But as fate would have it, Funke, her younger sister lost the battle.
But in spite of her health challenges before her demise, she was committed to her legislative duties, especially at the Committee level.
Her last known major legislative assignment was during the defence of the 2018 budget estimates of the Nigerian Army. Adedoyin was the Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Army and headed a sub committee which undertook a tour of military barracks in the country.
It was gathered that the late lawmaker during the tour of the barracks had complained bitterly about the state of Army barracks across the country and called for urgent measures to address the situation.
The deceased was elected into the Green Chamber in 2015 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), However, she was among lawmakers, who dumped the ruling party for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), shortly before the National Assembly went on recess in July this year.
