Some Tweeps have criticised the declaration to run for president which was made on Monday by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
Osinbajo had finally declared his presidential ambition in a video issued on social media, where he stated that he understands the hopes of Nigerians.
According to him, he believes God elevated him to his current position so that he can put to good use the experience and insights he has towards forging Nigeria ahead.
He said, “For the past seven (7) years, I have served as Vice President under a true Nigerian patriot, President Muhammadu Buhari.
“In these 7 years, while on the train of duty and service, I traversed every part of our country, meeting Nigerians of every cadre, class, tribe and walks of life, both young and old; I MET YOU.
“I’ve stood where you stand and sat where you sit. I know and I understand our hopes, aspirations and fears from a place of relatable proximity; and I believe that in those hopes and aspirations are the seeds for the great Nigeria that we all desire.
“I believe that the very reason why the Almighty God gave me these experiences, these insights, and these opportunities, is that they must be put to the use of our country and its great peoples.
“This is why today, with utmost humility, I formally declare my intention to run for the office of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, on the platform of our great party, the All Progressives Congress.
“I also most solemnly and respectfully seek your support as fellow Nigerians everywhere in this land and the diaspora, as we embark on this great and exciting journey that lies ahead of us. IT IS TIME.”
However, while some Nigerians on social media declared support for him, some found the VP’s declaration to be tasteless.
According to them, Osinbajo has nothing to offer, the same way he and his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari, failed to fulfil all the promises they made since they came into power seven years ago.

He added, “#OsinbajoDeclares saying he would complete what @MBuhari started. Buhari built sorrow, tears & blood in many homes. Travelling from one state to another in Nigeria depends on how prompt your family can negotiate with terrorists when kidnapped.”
@_aboh wrote, “You’ll not win anything. Not even third place in your party’s primaries. Your silence throughout this administration has proven that you’re not a man worthy of taking Nigeria anywhere positive.”
@emmaikumeh said, “This government has failed woefully for 7+ yrs. there is no way the presidents child or Osinbajo kids will be kidnapped and they will allow him/her to stay 2 weeks with kidnappers or come out and declare for president. Osinbajo is a failure. #OsinbajoDeclares.”
He added, “#KadunaTrainAttack victims are still with their hostage, yet Osinbajo and Amaechi both declared to run for president. This is the height of incompetence.”
