Hijab crisis: Don’t mistake our softness for weakness – Christians urge Muslims, Kwara govt

Reverend Victor Dada, President of Kwara Baptist Conference, has issued a strong warning to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq administration and the state’s Muslims not to take them for granted because they are playing cool on the hijab (Muslim head-cover), crisis on-going in the state.

The reverend made this remark while describing the Kwara government as the government of the Muslim, by the Muslim and for the Muslim.

He made this remark following the clash that ensued between Christians and Muslims at the First Baptist Church Surulere, Ilorin, Kwara State.

Recall that Kemi Filani News reported that there was a clash between Christians and Muslims over a disagreement on the use of hijab by Muslim students in Christain schools in the state.

Dada insists that no amount of pressure would make them bow to allowing Muslim students to use hijab in the schools, adding that they are grant-aided schools and not public schools.

He further fumed that the government in the last 15 years has been employing Islamic religious teachers in schools, while Christain Religious Knowledge teachers remain unemployed.

“It is surprising that the government has become a government of the Muslim, by the Muslim and for the Muslim in his (state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq) policies, pronouncements and attitude,” the statement explains.

Dada state that no government as at any time designed uniform for schools ever since the grant aiding policy begun in 1974.

“This has always been the responsibility of the proprietors, be it community or mission,” he added.

“The Muslims and the government should not take our gentleness for weakness.

“We shall not allow the use of hijab in our schools. We will defend our faith and defend our inheritance. We demand that the government should return our schools.”
