A 48-year-old herbalist, Ibukun Moses, has been arrested in Igbokoda in Ondo State while attempting to sell human parts.
The body parts allegedly belongs to a lady identified as Toyin who was brought to the herbalist for treatment but died if an undisclosed illness.
Immediately after her death, information gathered shows that the herbalist contacted her family to come and take her for burial. The family then agreed to bury her in Igbokoda in a cemetery which the herbalist took them to.
However, after the burial was concluded, the herbalist returned to the cemetery to exhume her corpse, cut off her head, the two hands and some other vital organs.
Things however turned soar for the herbalist when the victim’s family members went back to Igbokoda a week after she was buried to pray for the repose of her soul at the cemetery.
On getting there, they discovered that her tomb had been tampered with. This made them to immediately report the matter to the ZIS office at Obada-Oko area of Ogun State.
Immediately, the herbalist was arrested in his shrine but denied any knowledge of such. He later confessed to police of exhuming the corpse of the lady so as to sell it and use the proceed to buy foodstuff.
The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the matter to journalists said the case is under investigation.
She said: “The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr. Lawal Shehu, has directed that the case should be investigated and ensure that no stone should be left unturned for adequate prosecution of the suspect.”
