Insecurity: Police bust kidnapping syndicate, rescue victims, arrest suspects in Yobe

Yobe State Police Command said that its operatives have arrested two suspected kidnappers after their syndicate was busted in Tarmuwa local government area of the state.

The command disclosed through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement made available to Journalists on Wednesday in Damaturu.

According to the statement, the suspected Kidnappers, namely Adamu Manu, aged 25 and Musa Alh. Tahiru, aged 28, terrorising the inhabitants of Banbangida in Tarmuwa local government and some parts of Dapchi in the Bursari local government area.

It said the suspects were apprehended after receiving several kidnapping incidences in the areas, and the operatives successfully launched a manhunt on the syndicate.

“On 29th August 2023, at about 1640hrs, information was received indicating a kidnapping incident where a gang of seven (7) with AK 47 riffle and other deadly weapons invaded a hamlet at Mongono village via Tarmuwa LGA and kidnapped two persons.

“The kidnappers later demanded a ransom of Thirty Million Naira (N30,000.000.00) of which the victims could not afford, and after three weeks in captivity, the victims escaped from their abductors.

“In the same vein, on 29th August 2023 at about 1500hrs, the culprits, a gang of four, besieged one of their previous victims and seriously injured him in the process, forcefully carted away his valuables and the sum of Four Thousand Naira (N4,000.00).

“The victim was later rescued and taken to the hospital for medical treatment and is now recuperating”.

The command noted that during the investigation, the arrestes culprits confessed to committing the alleged crimes.

It added that, as an investigation is ongoing, police operatives are on the trail of other syndicate members.
