Former governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba and governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State have frowned at the hate speech bill before the Senate which has passed its second reading.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 15 th conference of the Nigeria Guild of Editors in Sokoto, Osoba called on Nigerians to ensure the hate speech bill does not see the light of day.
“ Even if it will take lobbying to resist the move , I offer myself for the struggle against its passage. I belong to this noble profession and will have to make it survive , ” he said.
Similarly Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State said , “ Draconian legislations have no place in our democracy. The media occupied a special position in the fight for the country ’ s independence , as well the return of the nation to democracy in fighting the excesses in power positions . It has an impeccable role of putting leadership at all levels on their toes and be accountable to the governed . ”
