The Senate, after a two-hour session on Wednesday at the plenary, has confirmed the appointment of Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa as the new Chairman of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The Senate came to this decision following the grilling of President Muhammed Buhari’s nominee, Bawa as the boss of the antigraft agency.
Recall that Bawa was nominated by Buhari and had his name sent to the National Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The news of his appointment of Bawa’s nomination as EFCC boss came as a surprise to many, including the acting-chairmen, Ibrahim Magu, who said he was surprised that the president had nominated another person for the OfficeOffice.
Magu, who is still undergoing trial and investigation on some misconduct and misuse of Office, said he was hoping that his trial and investigation period would finish before any new nomination or appointment.
Although clouds of dust were raised as regards the nomination of the Bawa, citing a corrupt incident that happened in 2019, where he was accused of been arrested by the antigraft agency for selling trucks impounded by the agencies to his proxies.
He, however, during the plenary, denied the allegation as false, stating that he’s fit to take the Office of the Chairman of the commission.
