Pastor of Trinity House, Ituah Ighodalo, has urged the Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to close down worship centers if it becomes necessary to do so as part of measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus that is currently on its second wave in Nigeria.
The pastor made this known during his appearance at Arise TV, today, December 21.
“If we need to. There is nothing sacrosanct about a religious house; a religious house is a gathering of people wanting to worship God.
If that gathering and that intimacy in the gathering will lead to the spread of germs or disease, God, because you want to worship Him, would not say that the physical things that you need to do should not be done.
So, if we need to shut down the churches, why not? Churches were shut down several months ago. We didn’t die, we survived,” he said.
Kemi Filani News recalls the Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reintroduced restriction on the operations of churches and mosques in the state.
Sanwo-Olu on the 18th of December, ordered worship centres not to hold services beyond two hours, adding that no gathering must exceed 50% of the maximum capacity of the Venue.
He also banned carnivals and street parties in the state.
The statement read: “Concerts, carnivals and street parties are banned in Lagos State until further notice.
Night Clubs have not been allowed to open yet. All Night Clubs in Lagos must immediately shut down, until further notice.
“The midnight to 4a.m curfew imposed by the Federal Government remains in place.
“The protocol of ‘No Mask No Entry’ must be enforced by all public places: Offices, Businesses, Markets, Shops, and so on.
“All Places of Worship (Churches, Mosques, etc.) must ensure that no gathering exceeds two hours, and also that no gathering exceeds 50% of the maximum capacity of the Venue.
“A minimum of 2 meters’ distance should be maintained between seated or standing guests.
“All guests and service providers at events MUST wear nose masks/coverings before entry.”
