TheCable live-checked the alleged facts and figures claimed by vice presidential candidates, particularly Peter Obi and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo who were just dishing out facts and statistics during the debate held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
To keep politicians accountable at the vice-presidential and presidential debate, TheCable verified the supposed facts and figures claimed by the aspirants.
For example, Peter Obi claimed that African trade today is less than 9 percent, however, according to Afriexim Bank, the Intra-Africa trade is around 15 percent. In 2016, intra-African exports made up 18 percent of total exports according to Brookings Institution.
Peter Obi also claimed that Nigeria only had about two million vehicles in Nigeria, however, statistics in 2017 showed that Nigeria had a total vehicle population of about 11,547,236 according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
