Toll gate fee: ‘We pay for inconveniences’ -Lekki residents says, write LCC

Residents of Lekki have written the toll gate operator following the handing over of the Lekki Toll Gate to the Lekki Concession Company, LCC by the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry, lamenting the return of traffic gridlock to the plaza due to the toll fee collection.

Their grievances of the communities were communicated in a communique issued on Sunday, which was co-signed by the President and General Secretary of the Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association, Emadoye and Gbemi Adeleke.

According to the residents, they were paying for ”inconveniencies rather than for convenience” as they lament a long haul of delay at the plaza of up to 30 mins while trying to pay the toll fee, which they blame on the ”poor experiences and services” of the LCC.

Over 80 communities under the aegis of LERSA in the Lekki environs, in their communique, demands that the LCC improve their tolling system technology to allow easy and free flow of traffic along the plaza before they resume collection of toll fee.

Read the full communique below;

“As residents and stakeholders of Lekki and significant users of the Lekki Expressway Tollgate, it is imperative for us to issue this communique, on the recent happenings in our community, most especially the security siege and disruption of movements, as a result of the planned protest, at the Lekki Tollgate yesterday, February 13, 2021.

“We also request that the Lekki Concession Company should create an enabling environment for people and businesses along this axis. Our road experience prior to the October 20 shutdown of the Toll gates has been hardship and suffering, with the long traffic at the Toll Plazas.

“We affirm, therefore, by asking for viable alternative roads to the tolled roads, implementation of round figure fees at the toll, and immediate improvement of the tolling system technology to guarantee free flow at the Tollgates before the commencement of tolling.

“Our intent with this request to the Government and LCC is for services to be reviewed and improved, in addition to listening to the peaceful agitations and concerns of our youths and citizens, before embarking on reopening the Toll plazas.”
