US,UK to impose Visa ban on DSS DG, AGF Malami over Sowore case

It appears the ongoing political drama between the State Security Service, self-styled as the Department of State Services and the convener of the RevolutionNow initiative, Omoyele Sowore might not come to an end anytime soon as the DSS continue to deny allegations of a rearrest on the later

The case which has now attracted the interest of foreign leaders especially the US and the Uk thickens as the said countries are set to impose Visa ban on DSS DG, AGF Malami

It was learnt that the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs )and human rights activists have stormed the embassy of the United States of America and the United Kingdom in Abuja demanding an immediate visa ban on the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, and Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

According to Adebayo Raphael who spoke to the press over the case, Bichi and Malami desecrated the sanctity of the courts by sending DSS Operatives to invade the Federal High Court, Abuja, last Friday.

Describing the ban as necessary, he stated that both officials undermined Nigeria’s democracy and disobeyed court orders on Omoyele Sowore

In his words; “We believe that the United States can still do more considering its strategic role in Nigeria’s democracy. It needs to ensure that democracy is not undermined in Nigeria by anti-democratic and fascistic elements within the country.

“We, therefore request in the best interest of Nigeria’s Democracy, that a visa ban be imposed on the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, and his immediate family for undermining Nigeria’s democracy.

” We also request that a visa ban be imposed on the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice in Nigeria, Abubakar Malami, and his immediate family considering his eerily suspicious silence in the face of the desecration of rule of law and violation of human rights by the DSS in Nigeria.

“The countries should also impose as many other sanctions as deemed necessary on Nigeria to demonstrate its commitment to the rule of law and human rights in the nation.”

Though the embassy is yet to state that their request would be granted, it may be recalled that the governement of both countries have promised to intervene in the ongoing crisis
