Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane has said he will be stepping down as coach of the Los Blancos. The French made this known on Thursday just days after winning the 2017/2018 Champions League title. He leaves after successfully guiding the Spanish club to three successive Champions League titles and one La Liga success since he took over in January 2016.
During a press conference, Zinedine Zidane said,
“I have taken the decision to not continue next year as Real Madrid coach. After three years I need another discourse, another method of working,”
“I love this club,” he added.
“What I think is that this team needs to continue winning but I think it needs a change, a different voice, another methodology. And that’s why I took this decision.”
The person who will take over as new manager will be made known by club president, Florentino Perez, who accompanied Zidane at the news conference and said Zidane’s exit was “totally unexpected”.
“Zidane informed me of his choice yesterday. I thank him for the work he has done,” said Perez.
