The new deputy senate president, Ovie Omo-Agege has hailed the inauguration of the 9th senate which took place yesterday, June 11, 2019.
The inauguration saw the emergence of Ahmad Lawan as senate president while Ovie Omo-Agege emerged his deputy.
Omo-Agege contested against former deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu who was nominated at the eleventh hour. He pulled 68 votes to defeat Ekweremadu who polled 37 votes.
Speaking to news men for the first time since announced as deputy senate president, Omo-Agege said:
“We all know what transpired in the past but what happened today has turned the page on 8th Senate and we have moved on to the 9th Senate.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues irrespective of political platforms. We will work together as brothers and sisters to move the senate forward.
“I attribute my victory to God and God only, there is no explanation for it,” he said.
Ahmad Lawan emerged senate president by defeating his rival Ali Ndume who support from the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
