The parliament made the suggestion following the on-going unrest and crisis that has taken over the market.

Urging the state government to take decisive actions, Engr. Seyi Makinde was told to consider relocating the traders in the market.

The Assembly suggested this to Seyi following deliberation on the crisis that has erupted in the area between Yoruba and Hausa.

One of the members of the parliament, Olatunde Kehinde, who tabled the matter before the sitting-assembly, narrates with a saddening spirit how lives and properties were lost in the crisis. He also expresses disappointment with the slow response of the security operatives to the situation.

The Assembly, after deliberation, resolve that the current location of the market can no longer accommodate the market and the number of goods sold there; hence, the need for relocation.

The state government was also urged to set up a panel of inquiry to confirmed the cause(s) of the crisis and those behind it, so they would all be prosecuted.

Commenting on the crisis, Speaker of the house, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin expressed disappointment on the traders and members of the community who did not curtail the situation from escalating.

He said, “They need to put their professional training to bear in the discharge of their duties. We need our security agents to react on time to emergency situations whenever they are called upon.

“The clash between traders of Yoruba and Hausa extractions should not have been allowed to snowball into a situation where lives and property would be lost.

“Our Police should collaborate more with various security agencies to enable them to arrest criminals who are bent on fomenting trouble among us.”
