Due to injuries, Ghana will be without its first and second choice goalkeepers at the World Cup, Joe Wollacott and Richard Ofori, respectively.
What happened?
Wollacott, the goalkeeper for Charlton Athletic, sustained an injury while on recent club duty as they prepared for their 3-3 League One match with Burton Albion. Before the game began, the 26-year-old Ghanaian international suffered an injury, and Craig MacGillivray took his place.
Ofori, the second-choice goalkeeper for Ghana and a member of Premier Soccer League powerhouse Orlando Pirates, suffered an injury during practice and was forced to miss the Carling Black Label Cup competition last weekend.
Manaf Nurudeen of Eupen, Ibrahim Danlad of Berekum Chelsea in his home country, and Lawrence Ati-Zigi of St. Gallen have all been chosen to work in Qatar as goalkeepers.
Idrissu Baba, who is injured, defender Johnathan Mensah, and Mubarak Wakaso are not present.
Joseph Paintsil, who performed admirably for Genk and dazzled at the Africa Cup of Nations, is out. In 14 league games so far, the midfielder has tallied six goals and six assists.
The technical bench for the Black Stars has also passed over promising young attacker Felix Afen-Gyan and Crystal Palace winger Jeffrey Schlupp.
Ghana’s World Cup fixture
On Friday, Ghana will take on Switzerland in a warm-up game before traveling to Qatar for the World Cup.
Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay are also members of Group H together with the Black Stars.
