The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, could be facing a legal battle over Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella.
Their club side, Bayer Leverkusen, is threatening to take legal action against Nigeria.
Bayer’s Chief Executive Officer, Fernando Carro is mulling legal action to stop Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella from playing for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Both Boniface and Tella are hoping to be named in Nigeria’s squad to Ivory Coast 2023.
Tella and Boniface are not the only African players, hoping to travel with their countries to Ivory Coast, they still have the likes of Odilon Kossounou (Ivory Coast), Edmond Tapsoba (Burkina Faso) and Amine Adli (Morocco).
Carro is not happy with the timing of the Africa Cup of Nations which will be held from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
“It is unacceptable that the Africa Cup is being played in the middle of the season, “Carro told the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, via Sport1.
“In order to change that, I will enter into a dispute with FIFA. We are also checking whether there is a legal chance of not having to release the players.
“That is not realistic. And in principle I don’t want to prevent anyone from taking this step.”
