Top football pundit, Biola Kazeem, has explained why former Nigeria international Emmanuel Amuneke tipped Mohamed Salah to win the 2023 CAF Player of the Year ahead of Victor Osimhen.
Kemi Filani reports that Nigerian fans dragged Amuneke over his comment.
But Kazeem has now given a hint into the rationale behind his remarks.
Kazeem tweeted: “Emmanuel Amuneke is as decent as they come.
“I think he expected Salah to win not because he felt he was more deserving than Osimhen but because of how voting can go when there are strong North African candidates.
“He contributed to Osimhen’s career & will be ecstatic at his win.”
Osimhen was eventually named winner of the award ahead of Salah and Achraf Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain.
