Sporting CP announced on Tuesday that Ruben Amorim has extended his contract as head coach through 2026.
Earlier this season, Amorim, 37, was mentioned in connection with moves to Premier League teams Chelsea and Aston Villa, but nothing came of those rumours.
After a successful stint with Braga and a move to Sporting in 2020, the former Portugal international led the team to their first Primeira Liga championship in 19 years in 2021.
They were the runners-up in Portugal’s top division the previous season, but after 13 games in the 2022–23 campaign, they are currently in fourth place and 12 points back of fierce rivals Benfica.
Additionally, they came in third in their Champions League group, which dropped them into the Europa League.
Sporting, however, are adamant about stability because they believe they have one of the best coaches in the world in Amorim.
“This renovation demonstrates a lot how Sporting CP works today: with discretion, efficiency and direction,” president Frederico Varandas said.
“It is also a very strong sign of how today Sporting CP is a strong and stable club, with stability being the basis of all success.
“A contract of this length always obliges the people who sign it to see themselves 100 per cent in the sporting project and that there is extreme trust between both parties.
“As president of Sporting CP, I can only be very happy that we have a contract until 2026 with one of the best coaches in the world and that we will continue to make Sporting CP grow.”
