Andy Robertson has lifted the lid on the relationship between Liverpool’s front three, saying the trio’s bond is “really strong.”
Questions have been raised in recent seasons after Sadio Mane stormed off the pitch when substituted at Turf Moor in 2019 while raging at Mohamed Salah.
The Liverpool striker was furious that Salah had squandered a goalscoring opportunity by failing to pass to him in the Burnley box.
The outburst from Mane lead to claims there were issues between the two players, while big names in football, including Arsene Wenger, suggested Salah is “selfish”.
Liverpool left-back Robertson recently spoke out about the Reds’ front three, and agreed there is a selfish streak running through the players.
But explained that the trio are paid to be selfish and score goals for the team, and that behind the scenes they’re all great friends.
Robertson told the Liverpool Echo: “The relationship [between the front players] off the pitch is really strong, and on the pitch, the link-up play and everything is always good.
“But these players are also paid to be selfish and we need them to score goals and take risks in the final third, and we add [Diogo] Jota into that category now.
“When they are in front of goal, we expect them to shoot and score.
“There have been certain occasions where people say Bobby could have passed, Sadio could have passed, or Mo could have passed, but these guys are paid money to make split-second decisions and score goals for us.
He added: “Their relationship is really strong just like every other relationship in the squad and that is why over the last couple of years we have been quite successful.
“You get nowhere without these relationships.”
