Real Madrid and Monaco have agreed to a fee of more than €100 million for French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to 90min.
Los Blancos missed out on signing Kylian Mbappe earlier this summer and quickly turned their attention to Tchouameni, who had also attracted interest from Chelsea, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Personal terms were agreed upon with all four parties, but Tchouameni later broke off talks with the latter three, having decided that he wanted to join Real this summer, and negotiations between the two clubs continued.
Sources close to the situation have now confirmed that a deal to sign Tchouameni has been struck, with Real agreeing to pay an initial €80 million (£68 million) plus a further €20 million (£17 million) in add-ons.
The 22-year-old emerged as an elite midfielder for Monaco last season, making 50 appearances across all competitions and contributing five goals and three assists, and he is now a regular in Didier Deschamps’ France squads.
Tchouameni spent the majority of his time as a defensive midfielder, either as a lone anchor man or in a pivot with Youssouf Fofana, but he is also at ease in a slightly more advanced role.
He is set to become Real Madrid’s second signing of the summer, following Antonio Rudiger, who has agreed to join the club on a free transfer after allowing his Chelsea contract to expire.
