The burial of the late football legend Pele has been set for Monday and Tuesday.
The wake will be held on Monday and his body will be laid to rest on Tuesday at his Santos home, where he enchanted the world, according to his former club.
“The wake for the greatest footballer of all time will be held in Urbano Caldeira Stadium, better known as the Vila Belmiro, where he enchanted the world,” Santos football club said in a Thursday statement, adding that Pele would then get a funeral procession through the city’s streets before a private burial ceremony.
The coffin of Pele, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 82, will be positioned in the middle of the field as it is transported from the Albert Einstein Hospital to Estádio Urbano Caldeira in Vila Belmiro on Monday morning. At 10am, the wake is anticipated to start.
People who want to honor the King of Football in their final moments should enter through two separate gates from politicians and other officials.
According to a story in the Daily Mail UK, the celebration will last until 10 am on Tuesday, January 3, when the parade will pass through Santos’ streets.
Before proceeding to the Ecumenical Necropolis Memorial for the private ceremony, it will travel by Canal 6, where Pele’s 100-year-old mother, Celeste, resides.
According to Daily Mail UK, the journalists will be allowed entry through gate 20 after registering in advance by email and reading the restrictions posted on the club’s official website.
Pele passed away at the age of 82 after a protracted fight with colon cancer. She had been hospitalized since late November.
Kely Nascimento, the legend’s daughter, acknowledged Pele’s departure on social media and stated, “Everything we are is owing to you. You have our undying love. Peace be with you.
There was a message to the three million followers on Pele’s official Twitter account, too: “Inspiration and love marked the journey of King Pele, who peacefully passed away today. Love, love and love, forever.”
Tributes have continued to flow in for the only man to win the World Cup three times: the first time in 1958 when he was 17 years old; the second time in Chile four years later; and the third time, the most famous, in Mexico in 1970.
In his football career, Pele scored 1,282 goals in 1,366 games, including 77 in 92 starts for his nation.
