Prior to the 2022 World Cup, UEFA has announced significant changes to the Champions League campaign for 2022/2023.
The tournament is the first in history to be held in the middle of a European season, as FIFA decided to hold it in November and December. Domestic and continental competitions will, of course, be halted during that time.
UEFA had to keep this in mind as they finalized the dates for the 2022/23 Champions League, with only a minor change.
According to European football’s governing body, the first group-stage matches will be played on September 6 or 7, a week earlier than usual, with the second round of matches scheduled for a fortnight later.
Group matches will last until November 1 and 2 – nearly a month earlier than a regular season.
Last season, the final group stage matches did not take place until early December.
The round of 16 matches will be played between the weeks of February 14 and 21, with the return legs scheduled for the weeks of March 7 and 14.
The quarter-finals will be held on April 11/12 and April 18/19, with the final four taking place on May 9/10 and May 16/17.
The final will take place on June 10, 2023, at Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium.
