It was an impressive away performance for Mikel Arteta’s men, with Gabriel Jesus playing a crucial role in that victory.
Jesus’ exquisite turn and pass sent Gabriel Martinelli scampering into space to make it 1-0.
Few minutes into the second half, Jesus himself curled in an absolute beauty as Arsenal exerted their dominance. However, the former Manchester City striker limped off with a hamstring problem and has not played since.
Eddie Nketiah, who replaced him upfront, was also missing in Tuesday’s training. Captain Martin Odegaard whose creativity has been sorely missed is also a doubt for the match.
All three were missing as Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign ended with a controversial 1-0 defeat at Newcastle.
Arteta said he felt “embarrassed” and “sick” after Anthony Gordon’s controversial goal in Newcastle’s 1-0 home victory over his side as he gave a scathing assessment of the match officials and the Premier League’s standards.
The goal was allowed to stand after VAR took several minutes to check if the ball went out of play, whether there was a foul in the build-up and for offside as Arsenal fell to their first league defeat of the season.
Whatever the case, Arteta and his boys have to put the drama surrounding them behind and clinch a ticket to the Champions League knockouts tonight.
