Chelsea began their Champions League campaign in emphatic fashion, defeating AC Milan 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.
After losing at Dinamo Zagreb in Thomas Tuchel’s final game as manager and drawing at home to Red Bull Salzburg on Graham Potter’s debut, the Blues entered the game at the bottom of what appeared to be a straightforward Group E.
The Italian champions, whom the hosts will face at the San Siro in the rematch on Tuesday, will feel much better about their chances of making it to the knockout round now that they have destroyed them. The hosts are now only one point behind Salzburg, who currently leads the table.
Wesley Fofana’s first goal since joining Chelsea from Leicester for £70 million gave Chelsea a deserving advantage at the half, and goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reece James tied the score just after the hour mark.
On Saturday, Chelsea will play Wolves again in the Premier League. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues will then fly to Italy for their second match against AC Milan, which will begin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
