Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk were held to a 1-1 draw in Warsaw thanks to a last-minute goal from Antonio Rudiger.
Oleksandr Zubkov gave Shakhtar the lead after an incredible performance by the home team, but a header from the German international in the 95th minute earned a point for Los Blancos.
Real Madrid largely struggled to produce anything of note in the first thirty minutes with their talisman Vinicius Junior confined to the bench.
In fact, the Ukrainians appeared to be the team with the best chance of scoring during this time as the home team pushed forward and forced players like Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez into strong defensive plays.
In the 35th minute, Los Blancos finally started to move the ball more quickly and exhibit some signs of life. A nice bit of interplay on the edge of the box led to Karim Benzema taking a shot at goal from a tight angle as a result of the tempo increase, giving Carlo Ancelotti his first real sight of goal. Despite having so much of the ball, Shakhar came the closest to scoring the following goal. Lassina Traore was played clean through on goal as a result of an outstanding run by Zubkov.
