Crawley Town have parted ways with manager John Yems after conducting an inquiry into their coach in the aftermath of multiple racist claims.
It comes after a former Crawley player claimed that the club’s changing room was racially segregated, with ethnic minorities forced to change apart from their white teammates.
According to Sky Sports News, seven Crawley players have come forward with complaints that Yems used discriminatory language and behavior toward his own players.
Yems was suspended by his employers late last month following “serious and credible” claims, according to the League Two team. Crawley has notified Sky Sports News that its investigation into Yems’ alleged behavior is complete, but the FA and PFA are still conducting their own investigations.
A Crawley spokesperson told Sky Sports News on Friday: “Our investigation has concluded as it pertains to our evaluation of John Yems’ employment status with the club; however, we are continuing to coordinate and work in cooperation with The FA as it continues in its investigation.”
Crawley made no mention of the claims or the ongoing investigations in their official club statement announcing Yems’ resignation, with the League Two club now conducting a “global search” for a new manager. Lewis Young, the club’s assistant manager, will lead the team to Oldham Athletic this weekend.
