Deontay Wilder has been offered the opportunity to put his patented knockout power to the test against British fighter Joe Joyce, according to veteran boxing promoter Frank Warren.
After back-to-back losses to Tyson Fury, the former WBC heavyweight champion recently announced he will fight again, putting an end to speculation that his career was over.
Warren, who was involved in the production of all three Fury-Wilder fights, is pleased to see ‘The Bronze Bomber’ making a comeback after putting on some fantastic performances with ‘The Gypsy King.’
“He’s had gruelling fights with Tyson [Fury]. The last one was a classic, him and Tyson was a classic, classic fight,” Warren told iFL TV.
“When you talk about the best fights in the last 20 years, that certainly is one of them. Absolute excitement. As I said, the most exciting heavyweight fight I’ve seen live and he was the other half of the card.
“I don’t know if he’s got anything left but if’s he’s got desire then he’ll come back and he’ll fight on. He’s a dangerous man, he can punch, just ask Tyson. He had Tyson on the deck twice in that last fight.”
Wilder’s comeback fight should be against Joyce, according to the Hall of Fame promoter.
“There’s some good fights to be made. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see him fight Joe Joyce?” Warren said.
“You’d much rather see him fight Joe Joyce than see any of the other guys. Who would you much rather see him fight? Would you much rather see him fight Dillian Whyte? I’d much rather see him fight Joe Joyce.
“I don’t want to see two losers fight, fight one of the winners and you’re fighting for the no.1 spot. You’ve got the best whiskers [in Joyce] who punches himself, he’s knocked 12 of his 13 [opponents] out.”
Joyce, who is ranked No. 1 by the WBO, was set to fight Joseph Parker on July 2, but the New Zealander recently announced that he would not be available on that date.
According to Warren, a replacement opponent will be announced in the near future for that date. If all goes well, Joyce will return to the ring in September for a major bout.
