Dundee United’s head coach, Jack Ross, has been fired after his team was thrashed 9-0 by Celtic, dropping them to the bottom of the Scottish Premiership table.
The Tangerines were soundly defeated by Ange Postecoglou’s top-flight champions, with hat-tricks from Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada at Tannadice sealing Ross’ fate.
Dundee United have lost four of their first five league games, failing to win any of them. They have also conceded 18 goals.
Ross’ side also exited the Europa Conference League in the third qualifying round, losing 7-1 on aggregate to AZ Alkmaar. United conceded a goal every 15 minutes on average during the 7-0 second-leg loss.
Ross, 46, was hired in June to replace Tam Courts, who left the team.
Assistant Liam Fox will take charge of the first team on an interim basis ahead of Wednesday’s Premier Sports Cup match at Livingston.
Speaking after the 9-0 defeat to Celtic, Ross admitted he was not getting enough out of his squad but was adamant that he wanted time to get it right again.
