By starting negotiations for a deal for Emmanuel Dennis, Everton hopes to have chosen the player they believe to be Richarlison’s replacement.
Last season, Everton narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League with a game to spare. Indeed, their 3-2 comeback win over Crystal Palace will live long in the memory in an otherwise disappointing season. Richarlison scored the equaliser in the comeback that night. And the Brazilian stepped up when Everton needed him the most during the relegation dogfight.
However, Everton’s struggles, combined with the player’s desire to play at a higher level, resulted in Richarlison’s departure. A £60 million sale to Tottenham was difficult to envision, though the money generated by his sale certainly softened the blow.
Additionally, it gives Everton the chance to bolster their team because of the limited resources at Goodison.
Dennis appears to be the man Everton have settled on to fill Richarlison’s shoes.
The Nigerian was one of Watford’s few bright spots during a difficult season. He joined from Club Brugges last summer and finished the season with 10 goals and six assists in 33 games.
