Erik ten Hag, the head coach of Manchester United, has said that Harry Maguire will likely miss the derby match against Manchester City due to injury.
The centre-back participated in both of England’s games during the international break, playing the full 90 minutes in the UEFA Nations League matches against Italy and Germany.
Maguire was said to have been battling a hamstring injury despite playing the entire duration of both games, prompting Harry Kane to remark that “he played another five or 10 minutes on almost one leg.”
The 29-year-old is now reportedly out of the match against Manchester City because of his perseverance, which appears to have cost him something.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Ten Hag said: “Harry Maguire is injured and I think, for the rest, we have some doubts, with Anthony Martial, but he was training all week with the group.
“So I am really happy with that situation, he’s performing really well in training and makes a good impression.
“Marcus Rashford has returned to training, so I’m also happy with that.”
Discussing Maguire, Ten Hag added: “First of all I have to coach him, I have to back him but I back him because I believe in him.
“In the period I work with him, pre-season, really good, training and games. Quality was really there.
“You see his career, almost 50 caps for England, with Leicester and Man United, what you see is high potential. Then it is about him.
“Player, manager, coaches, we all believe in him. I am convinced he will turn around.”
