West Ham’s second goal on Sunday left Fulham fuming after they were convinced Gianluca Scamacca had handled the ball.
The game was tied at 1-1 after Andreas Pereira’s strike was cancelled out by a Jarrod Bowen penalty.
The Hammers took the lead after 62 minutes thanks to their Italian striker, but it was highly contentious.
A lovely ball was played by Lucas Paqueta to Scamacca, who was spread out over a large area.
He coolly dinked the ball over Bernd Leno after it bounced up and appeared to strike his arm.
The Fulham goalkeeper and players all stopped playing, while Scamacca himself did not celebrate the goal.
It seemed sure to be chalked out by VAR. The offside was first checked and he was on by the narrowest of margins.
After dozens of replays to check the handball, the VAR official awarded the goal.
This infuriated Fulham, and manager Marco Silva argued with the referee for the following few minutes.
“You can’t tell conclusively on that. It’s not clear and obvious,” talkSPORT host Perry Groves said.
Michail Antonio, who came off the bench to score, helped the Hammers win the game 3-1.
