Following Darwin Nunez’s third goal in his last three starts, Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas called the Uruguayan a “goal machine” and predicted more of the same.
In Liverpool’s 1-0 Premier League victory over West Ham on Wednesday night, Nunez scored the team’s lone goal, heading in a left-wing cross from Tsimikas. He also scored goals against Rangers in the Champions League and the most recent loss to Arsenal.
The former Benfica player appears to have recovered from the setback that saw him struggle after receiving a red card on just his second Premier League appearance back in August. If all add-ons are activated, he will have cost Liverpool £85 million, setting a new club record.
Jurgen Klopp acknowledged at the beginning of October that Nunez needed to “calm down” and still needed to mature before reaching the anticipated heights.
Following the victory over West Ham, Klopp stressed the significance of Nunez beginning to score; now, Tsimikas claims that it is helping to increase the striker’s confidence.
“He’s always there. He can score with the left, with the right [and] with the head – he’s a goal machine,” the left-back told LFCTV.
“He needs confidence, [which] is coming [and] I hope for him all the best [to] score more and more goals to help the team to give us more wins because for us he is a very, very important player.”
