Former Premier League star Darren Bent has expressed shock over Chelsea’s decision to name Reece James their new captain.
James was recently announced as the Blues captain, replacing Cesar Azpilicueta, who left the club for Atletico Madrid this summer.
Bent feels the England international does not have the quality of a good skipper and believes that Thiago Silva would made a perfect captain for the Blues.
Bent wonders why the club could not name more experienced players in the squad as their captain.
“To me it’s a surprising,” he said on Drivetime
“He doesn’t strike me as a natural leader, he’s a bit more quiet.
“If you look at who they have I thought it was going to be, Thiago Silva – the guy’s captained Brazil!”
