Premier League referees chief, Howard Webb, has said that he was ‘surprised’ by Erik ten Hag’s comment against VAR’s decision to rule out Alejandro Garnacho’s goal against Arsenal during their Premier League game clash on Sunday.
Webb spoke on the first episode of Match Officials: Mic’d Up on Sky Sports.
He discussed key decisions by VAR this season, including Arsenal’s tight win over Manchester United.
Manchester United thought they had scored the winning goal but Alejandro Garnacho’s effort was ruled out for offside.
Arsenal also got a penalty decision overturned.
Man United boss Erik ten Hag was convinced the officials had got the ‘wrong angle’, insisting that Garnacho’s goal should not have been disallowed.
But Webb is still convinced VAR made the right call.
“I was surprised by some of the comments about this post-match,” Webb said.
“It’s a clear offside situation, the technology was used quite rightly from the calibrated cameras to identify Garnacho was ahead of Gabriel and the goal was quite rightly disallowed after initially being awarded on the field.”
