Diogo Jota will not play for Liverpool against West Ham in their upcoming matchup after being carried off during overtime of their 1-0 victory over Manchester City, according to Jurgen Klopp.
Jota put in a tireless performance for Liverpool and had scoring opportunities as they battled hard to defeat City at Anfield, but he had to leave late due to an injury.
The Portuguese forward appeared to overstretch minutes after receiving a caution, went down clutching his leg, was carried off the field, and was replaced by Kostas Tsimikas. Liverpool went on to win the game.
After the game, Klopp revealed to Sky Sports that he wouldn’t be at Liverpool’s match in the middle of the week: “We miss the next one with Diogo. He felt real pain in that moment but I have no idea how bad it is.”
He continued, obviously troubled by how Jota’s game had ended, “If Diogo stays down it is not good.”
On Wednesday night, Liverpool will play their next game when West Ham visits Anfield. Jota is currently expected to miss out due to injury, but Klopp will also have to watch the game from a distance.
The German was dismissed against City for his on-field protests after Bernardo Silva’s challenge on Mohamed Salah, admitting that he became “carried away” in the heat of the moment.
