Christian Eriksen, a Danish midfielder who is 30 years old, is reportedly close to signing a free agent contract with the Red Devils for a period of three years, as reported by an Italian football journalist named Fabrizio Romano in The Guardian.
It was reported that the former Tottenham player had reached a verbal agreement with the Manchester side. Eriksen’s decision to sign with United was heavily influenced by the club’s newly hired coach, Erik ten Hag.
In a private conversation, the Dutch manager explained his project to the Dane. Both Ten Hag and Eriksen have ties to Ajax, with the former serving as the club’s head coach from 2017 until 2022 and the latter having played for the club from 2010 until 2013.
In order to finalize the signing this week, the contracts are currently being drafted and medical exams are being scheduled.
The signing of Eriksen comes after Manchester United won the race to sign former Feyenoord defender Tyrrell Malacia by besting Olympique Lyonnais. United also has high hopes of beating Arsenal to the signature of Ajax-based Argentine forward Lisandro Martinez, who is 24 years old.
Eriksen will be joining United from Premier League team Brentford, where he has made eleven appearances, scoring one goal and registering four assists during that time.
