Wolves have taken a different strategy in their attempt to persuade Julen Lopetegui to become their new permanent head coach.
At the beginning of October, Wolves fired their previous manager Bruno Lage, and as soon as Lopetegui left Sevilla, they turned their attention to him. The Spaniard declined the position, stating that he needed to see his ailing father for family reasons.
Upon leaving Sevilla, he said: “The only future plan I have right now is to go see my father, who is 92 years old and I haven’t seen him for a long time.
“My family is important, they live with the intensity of our profession, we take our problems home, I owe them everything and I’m very grateful. They are the ones who give me the strength to continue being a football coach.”
Lopetegui is thought to have accepted Wolves’ latest approach to entice him to Molineux, which includes the assurance of a sizable transfer cash to assist strengthen the team.
Wolves, who had already hired interim coach Steve Davis until 2023, are now seeking to reach an agreement with Lopetegui so that he may perhaps take over before the World Cup break later this month.
They would at the very least expect for an appointment sometime in December before the Premier League’s Boxing Day return from the World Cup break.
