Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has given an update as regards Marcus Rashford’s muscle injury ahead of the Europa League clash with Moldovan side FC Sheriff on Thursday.
Rashford, who has scored three goals in his last four games for United, was also left off the roster last Thursday night when they lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad.
Rashford scored two goals and provided an assist in last Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Arsenal to solidify his position as a key player in United’s recent turn of events. He has firmly established himself as Ten Hag’s first-choice striker for the time being, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, who received a rare start in the defeat to Sociedad.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Erik ten Hag said concerning Rashford: “He’s (Marcus Rashford) not available. The consequence after Arsenal. He has a muscle injury.
“I don’t think [he will be out for] too long, but I cannot tell how long. It’s not really bad and we expect him to be back quite soon.”
When asked if Rashford has done enough to earn an England recall, the Dutchman said: “It’s quite clear [he can make the squad], sure, yes. He’s shown his great potential and quality [this season].
United’s trip to Crystal Palace was cancelled following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, while a lack of police resources forced them to postpone their home match against fierce rivals Leeds. This leaves United’s game against Sheriff as their final one before the international break.
