Manchester United were defeated 2-1 by Brighton in their first Premier League match under new manager Erik ten Hag.
Ten Hag didn’t get off to the best of starts as United’s Premier League campaign got underway with a lacklustre performance against the visiting Seagulls, who led by two goals at halftime thanks to a double from Pascal Gross.
After Cristiano Ronaldo came on in the second half, United improved and got a lift through a scrappy Alexis Mac Alister own goal. However, they struggled to get past Brighton’s defence once more and didn’t create many clear chances to score the equaliser.
Meanwhile, former Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney has urged the club to let Cristiano Ronaldo leave this summer.
Ronaldo is believed to be pushing to leave Old Trafford, as he desires to play for a team in the Champions League.
But the 37-year-old is yet to find a top club in Europe, with the likes of Chelsea, Barcelona and Bayern Munich all backing out.
Ronaldo is said to have told Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag that he is ready to go all out against Brighton this weekend as he looks set to remain at Old Trafford.
But Rooney thinks it was time to say goodbye to the football icon, urging United to offload his former teammate before the transfer window closes.
