Former Real Madrid captain Marcelo Vieira has committed to Olympiacos of Greece for a single season.
Since leaving the reigning European champions in July this year, the 33-year-old has been without a club.
The famed left-back has now joined the 47-time Greek champions and has the option to extend his contract if he so chooses for an additional year.
Olympiacos celebrated the acquisition of one of the all-time great left-backs on social media.
“A true football LEGEND joins OLYMPIACOS! Welcome MARCELO to Piraeus,” the Pireas-based club tweeted.
Marcelo ended his two-decade stay at Real Madrid in fairytale fashion, helping the club win the UEFA Champions League last season.
The 25 titles he has won at Real Madrid make him the most decorated player in the club’s history. His most recent trophy tilt occurred back in May.
Marcelo joined the current European and La Liga champions in 2007 after leaving Fluminense of Brazil. He made an astounding 546 appearances at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Following his debut international match in 2006, he made 58 appearances for Brazil’s senior national team. After two games this season, Olympiacos, Marcelo’s new team, are currently third in the Greek Super League standings.
