Manager of the England national team, Gareth Southgate, has spoken on the possibility of Brighton striker, Evan Ferguson, representing the Three Lions.
Ferguson was eligible to play for England through his mother, who is English.
However the 18-year-old has been capped six times by the Republic of Ireland and is no longer eligible.
According to FIFA rules, the maximum number of games to still remain eligible to switch allegiance is four.
Ferguson was rumoured to be the next player England would poach from Ireland after taking Declan Rice and Jack Grealish.
Southgate admitted that Ferguson never considered England.
He said, “I think he’s played too many games at senior level, I think he’s got eight caps now.
“I’m not exactly sure on whether he definitely can’t, but I think he’s made it very clear he feels he was born in Ireland and he’s represented them and I would 100 per cent [support that].
“I think he’s a bloody good player. We have to respect him, I don’t think he’s given any inkling that would be any different.”
