Newcastle United’s second offer for midfielder James Maddison was turned down by Leicester City.
Newcastle sources have confirmed that after making a weekend bid of £40 million, they have increased it to £45 million with add-ons.
Although it’s thought that £60 million is the price at which they would consider a deal for the England international. Leicester is steadfast in their insistence that they do not want to sell.
With Maddison’s contract set to expire in 2024, Leicester is attempting to negotiate a new deal with him, but no action has been taken to date.
Newcastle’s initial offer of £40 million was swiftly rejected by Brendan Rodgers earlier this week.
“You see how happy he is and he’s not a player we want to sell,” said Rodgers.
“It’s not for me to put valuations on the players, it’s not my side, but that might just cover three-quarters of his left leg, that price. He’s a top player.”
