In chaotic full-time scenes that saw three players sent off on Sunday night, Juventus came from behind to earn a dramatic point but were denied a late winner by an offside call.
Before Krzysztof Piatek’s penalty gave the visitors a 2-0 lead, Antonio Candreva finished at the back stick.
When the winning goal by Arkadiusz Milik was ruled to be offside, mauls ensued, resulting in the dismissal of Milik, Juan Cuadrado, and Federico Fazio.
The visitors quickly struck first to start the process of a major upset. Candreva was ready and waiting to poke in at the back post after Pasquale Mazzocchi dribbled into the box and shot across goal.
Soon after, Juve had the ball in the net, but Vlahovic’s rolled finish was ruled offside, so the goal was not recognised.
Before halftime, the video assistant referee called Bremer for a handball, giving Piatek the chance to score from the spot, which he duly did to make it 2-0. This gave Salernitana another boost.
Massimiliano Allegri, the manager of the Bianconeri, is already under pressure due to the team’s below-average start to the season. Going into halftime with the team trailing by two goals and the crowd booing them did little to relieve the tension at the Allianz Stadium.
At the beginning of the second half, they got a goal back when Bremer headed a cross from Filip Kostic into the ground and into the roof of the net.
Moments later, they missed the equaliser as well when a Vlahovic shot ricocheted off Federico Fazio and off the woodwork.
The winning goal appeared to have been headed in by Milik from a corner in stoppage time, but Bonucci’s offside position prevented it from counting.
The game finished with 19 players as Milik, Cuadrado and Fazio were all dismissed, as was Juve manager Allegri.
Salernitana have dropped to tenth place, four points behind the top three teams in Napoli, Atalanta, and AC Milan, while Juve are now eighth.
