Argentine maestro, Lionel Messi, has named his choice of the best defender in the world.
According to the former Barcelona ace, Tottenham centre-back Cristian Romero is ‘the best defender in the world’.
Messi was reacting to the player’s solid performance against Ecuador as the World Cup champions won their first 2026 World Cup qualifier 1-0.
Messi scored a second-half free-kick to give his side all three points.
And the Tottenham defender was in top form as the world champions had to weather the storm.
“For me, he is the best defender in the world right now,” Messi said about the Spurs centre-back.
“Amazing performance tonight, man of the match.”
