Fenway Sports Group, the owners of Liverpool, has come under fire for the way they handled Mohamed Salah’s contract dispute.
As things stand, Salah will be a free agent after the 22–23 season as the Reds’ star player enters the final year of his current contract with no indication that a club or player agreement has been reached regarding an extension.
Senegal star Sadio Mane has already left Liverpool this summer after being sold to German champions Bayern Munich. The future is also uncertain because Salah’s contract situation has not yet been resolved.
A former midfielder for Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur has commented on the Salah situation.
He said on talkSPORT: “He’s going into the final year of his contract, still hasn’t signed a new deal, you’ve seen Mane leave. Now they recouped their money with Mane – good bit of business. He’d been at the football club, wanted to go in the end for whatever reasons, which will come out but I’m sure it was down to money.”
“Now Salah could go on a free – that is unacceptable. Liverpool have set the benchmark for how to do business as a football club and they’ve done it brilliantly. But they’ve got to get this sorted out because Mo Salah cannot leave that football club on a free.”
The contract negotiations between Liverpool’s officials and Mohamed Salah’s representatives have been going on for a very long time, but they appear to be stalled at a crossroads.
Salah has stated in the past that he is not seeking “crazy money,” but the club is still hesitant to depart from their rigid wage structure.
Salah did state that he would be representing Liverpool for the 22–23 season prior to the Champions League championship game.
