A move for Lucas Paqueta is now assuredly going to happen after Tottenham was reportedly given permission to upgrade one of the positions Antonio Conte still wants to improve.
The 24-year-old attacker can play in a variety of forward positions, but he is best suited to play as a No. 10, a position that Conte has yet to really fill and one that prompted comparisons to Manchester United signing Christian Eriksen before he left Tottenham for the Red Devils.
The Brazilian athlete, who currently plays for Lyon, is regarded as a dynamic playmaker who is also capable of playing on the right wing.
And according to the Daily Mirror, Tottenham’s efforts to sign him have been significantly aided.
The Ligue 1 giants placed Paqueta’s value at £55 million. However, rumours have been spreading that the cost has now been reduced to a much more manageable £34m.
According to the report, sporting director Fabio Paratici made the right decision to pursue Paqueta because the Lyon star can give Tottenham a unique attacking option.
In 43 games across all competitions last season, Paqueta assisted on 18 goals. These numbers included 11 goals and 7 assists as Lyon failed to qualify for Europe with an eighth-place finish.
Now, much will depend on Paratici using his magic to get rid of some players first.
