The match between FC Sheriff and Manchester United in the Europa League group stage will take place on Thursday night as scheduled, according to the club.
Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday evening, all games this weekend were postponed in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Due to these postponements, numerous midweek European matches for the British club have also been called off. There are matches in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, or UEFA Conference League that Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, West Ham, and Manchester United are scheduled to play in.
Man Utd has announced on their official website that their Europa League match will go on as scheduled:
“Following discussions with the relevant governing bodies and in line with guidance issued by the UK Government, we can confirm our UEFA Europa League fixture against FC Sheriff will take place as scheduled on Thursday evening in Moldova.
“Match arrangements will remain the same for fans who are traveling to support the team in Chisinau.”
The Red Devils are in desperate need of a victory at the “Sheriff” Sports Complex after suffering an unexpected 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad in their opening group stage match. Sheriff, meanwhile, defeated Omonia 3-0 in their opening game.
