Neymar will go on trial for fraud and corruption in connection with his 2013 transfer from Santos to Barcelona.
Brazilian investment group DIS, who at the time of the transfer owned a portion of the player’s transfer rights, is the complainant.
DIS claims that because parties to the deal concealed its true value, they were given less money than they were entitled to.
Along with Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, who were then Barcelona’s president and vice president, both of Neymar’s parents, former Santos manager Odilio Rodrigues, and former Barcelona players are also accused in the case.
In the past, investigations were conducted in Brazil and Spain to see if any transfer fee had been withheld.
In 2017, Neymar denied any wrongdoing; however, the Spanish High Court rejected this, and the case will now go to trial. Later this year, the proceedings will last from October 17 to October 31.
On the field, Neymar, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2018 from Barça, has been linked with a departure from the club.
Despite these rumours, he hasn’t attracted any actual interest this summer.
