Henry Nwosu, a former Nigerian international, has praised Nigeria’s Super Falcons despite their 5-4 loss to Morocco on penalties in the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, semi-final on Monday night.
The former midfielder praised the Super Falcons for their toughness against Morocco and said they should be commended for forcing a penalty shootout despite receiving two red cards during the game.
Sanaa Mssoudy and Yasmin Mrabet’s goals gave Nigeria and Morocco a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes of play.
“I don’t consider this as a defeat but a victory for the gallant Super Falcons despite going two players down and holding their own till the penalty shootouts,” He told Completesports.
“Credit should be accorded to the women because it was a spirited performance from them. They showed great character and determination as far as I am concerned.”
Nigeria will now play Zambia for third place on Friday, and South Africa and Morocco will square off in the championship game on Saturday for a chance to win their first-ever WAFCON championship.
