On June 30, Chelsea legend Petr Cech will resign from his position as the London club’s Technical and Performance Advisor.
In a statement posted on their website on Monday, the club announced Cech’s departure.
After Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over, Cech is the most prominent person to leave.
The former goalkeeper, who has served as their technical and performance advisor since 2019, leaves the west London club, joining club chairman Bruce Buck and sporting director Marina Granovskaia.
After leaving London rivals Arsenal in 2019, Cech accepted his position at the club not long after retiring.
However, the former Czech Republic international is best remembered for his accomplishments at Stamford Bridge, where he made 494 appearances and claimed five Premier League championships in addition to the FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, and Europa League.
He has collaborated closely with Granovskaia on transfers since his retirement, and after the announcement of the now-defunct European Super League, he was forced to mediate between fans.
But in Boehly’s reorganization, he is now the most recent to depart.
Speaking on his departure Cech said: “It has been a huge privilege to perform this role at Chelsea for the past three years. With the club under new ownership, I feel now is the right time for me to step aside. I am pleased that the club is now in an excellent position with the new owners, and I am confident of its future success both on and off the pitch.”
Boehly, the chairman and co-controlling owner of Chelsea, also commented on Cech’s departure, saying: “Petr is an important member of the Chelsea family. We understand his decision to step away and thank him for his contributions as an advisor and his commitment to the club and to our community. We wish him the best.”
With less than a month until the start of the new season, Cech’s departure puts additional pressure on the Blues’ efforts to strengthen their squad this summer. Thomas Tuchel’s team still hasn’t made a signing.
